WhatsApp Will Introduce Feature Message Checks that are Forwarded by Users
WhatsApp is planned to introduce a feature that will make it easier for users to check the truth of the information forwarded or shared.
The fact checking feature that is forwarded or sent via this chat, will later appear with a magnifying glass icon next to it.
Quoted from Mashable, Wednesday (05/08/2020), users will be shown an option to the Google search page to check that the information is valid or only limited to hoaks.
The company explained, the message or link will be checked in fact to Google web pages without revealing the chat content in WhatsApp.
Information, fact checking features on WhatsApp are only available in Brazil, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
IOS, Android and WhatsApp Web users in these countries can already use the fact check feature in the application at this time.
WhatsApp Limit Forward Messages
Previously, in 2019, WhatsApp introduced special alerts for messages that have been forwarded aliases repeatedly to users.
Messages that have been shared frequently, are marked with a 'double arrow' icon to indicate the message is not from the user's closest contact.
Many Forward Messages Have the Potential to Disinformation
"For example, we previously set limits on messages that were forwarded to handle viral content, which caused a reduction in messages that were forwarded as much as 25 percent globally at the time," WhatsApp said in a statement.
WhatsApp does not consider forwarding messages to be always bad. For example if the message being forwarded is a funny video, useful information, prayers or aphorisms.
However, WhatsApp also sees a significant increase in the number of messages forwarded by users.
